Martha F*cking Stewart

May 11th, 2007

Y’all, I just finished making my very first batch of baby food.

I know!

But, hell, I have the time (although it doesn’t really take that much time) and it just seems much more appealing to me than the goo that comes out of a jar. I did give Bridget her first sweet potatoes from a container of Gerber food, and it was “organic” but it still just looked so blah to me. I bought a great book on how to do it and set about it today. It cost me 79 cents (for the carrots) and took me about 20 minutes to peel, cut, steam and puree the carrots. It made enough to fill half of an ice cube tray, which I think is about six servings. That’s it.

I know, I know. I’m a pioneer woman. Next week, I’ll be baking bread and churning butter.

I made nearly all of Mia’s baby food (which was not so hard to do once we resigned ourselves to the fact that she would only eat avocado) and people gave me constant shit for it. So I will just say hey, good for you, and warn you that pureeing peas is a real bitch.

So impressive! Makes me want to go have a carrot for a snack.

I’m so in awe of you right now I can hardly stand it. It’s something I know I need to do since Peanut does not like anything I put in front of her. OR, you could come over and do it for me since you are already so good at it!!!

I never thought to do that when I had my first child…it was when I had my third that I wanted to make her own food but by then I was too tired!!!

Awesome! How did Bridget like it? I always have thought that making baby food would be the way to go (if I had time, energy, yada yada) - let me know how it works out for you! :)

I have a food mill…but it works pretty crappy! I am intrigued by your pioneering ways and it is definitely much more economical. Way to branch out. Now if you dig a well and start brining in buckets of water to boil the veggies over an open fire….you may loose me.
