Diaper Dilemma

September 20th, 2007

I need your input.

Scenario: Baby has been down for a nap for only about 35 minutes, when over the monitor you hear her stirring. And then grunting. You know that a poopy diaper is what you would find if you went in the room. But you also know that if you go in there and change it, the baby will be awake with no hope of going back to sleep. But the baby is not crying and if you leave it, the baby will go back to sleep and get in a normal nap.

Do you go change the diaper?

‘Cause I’m not.

Given the nap issues we have in this house, he would poop himself awake and then babble until he finally got pissed off enough and I went in to get him. So I’d lose out on that scenario.

Hell no!!!! A little poo never killed anyone, but lack of sleep makes us homicidal.

Never, ever wake a sleeping baby unless it cannot possibly be avoided. Just slather that little bottom in diaper cream before naptime to keep the poop away from her skin and let her be.

Let the poop be, I say! And then go get yourself a Bloody Mary and a nap.

yes, you never, EVER wake up a baby just to change diaper. if it’s not overflowing, it’s not an emergency. and even then, it depends on exactly HOW MUCH is overflowing. ;)

I’d have to agree with what has already been written here! Hell no. I would never wake a sleeping baby. If the poop is that bothersome she’ll wake herself up in due time.

No crying? Then technically I have not been told about the poopy diaper, and I would not change it. I would put a layer of vaseline on the little bottom before naptime, to protect the skin for just this possibility.
