Prickly Situation

May 29th, 2008

Lately, I’ve been trying to find an alternative to shaving. I don’t mind shaving. I don’t cut myself or anything. But lately, even though  my legs feel smooth, you can see the little speckles of the hair beneath the surface of the skin. So even if I have just shaved, you wouldn’t necessarily think so to look at my legs.

The other day I did a test with some tweezers, and it seems to work - the hair was gone and no tell-tale black spot there. But there’s no way I have time to tweeze the hair on my legs. That’s like bailing out Titanic with a thimble. Yesterday I bought an epilator. I tried it out and I have a mixed review. It hurts, I won’t lie. But it’s not unbearable. The other complaint I have is really not the fault of the product. I think my hair wasn’t quite long enough to work right. But it was do-or-die time with the hair. I was about to cut Jake when he rubbed his legs against mine in bed at night. So I had to go over and over some spots to get the hair to come out, when I probably should have waited another day or two.

I’m reserving judgment for now. Right now, I have some red splotches that I assume will go away soon. If this doesn’t work, I’ll have to think about waxing my legs. I don’t mind that since I doubt it will hurt very much. But it will take a long time, don’t you think? I’ve never tried it. I’ll keep you posted. I know you’ll be waiting on pins and needles.

I am a recent, last few years, convert to waxing. Its changed my life!!! It is so, so much better than the shaving, Nair, and other hirsute abatement solutions.

I just did my big wax to kick off summer - legs (lower and upper), brows (always), bikini regular (hell no to the brazilian) and arm pits… its so easy, not itchy, no ingrowns and last forever. Its a bit intimate in that the wax ladies are all in your business, but… that said… the pain is worth it…

No fuss, no worries.. that said, I am not super hairy, but just enough to feel yucky in shorts, bathing suit or sleeveless shirt… plus I have them give a pedicure too - so its like all the maintenance at once except hair..

Plus no 20-month old ‘helping’ me while I shower.

Did you know there’s a way to go into your profile and block certain facebook account holders from finding you? I did that to make sure the in-laws wouldn’t find my account since I use my real name tied to my blog there.

Oh, damn. That comment was meant for you facebook post.

As for the hair: have you tried the foaming stuff on your legs? I haven’t either, but maybe an alternative.

Watch out for the foam stuff, I’ve tried a few different brands and it burns and leaves a nasty rash on me.

I have an epilator too, and I find the more you use it, the less it hurts (I think you just become acclimated to it).

I did a wax job at the salon for my wedding, and I think that was my favorite (quickest and least painful) but it’s too expensive for my regular routine.

I have the same epilator. Take the springy guard thingy off. You’ll get more hair that way, and I found that it doesn’t need to be that long. Might not get all of it at one shot, but you’ll get most of it.

I’m totally looking into laser hair removal, just because I hate how time consuming it is to remove hair from my body.
