Quick Poll

May 31st, 2008

Out of curiosity, I want to know how many of you out there have and regularly maintain houses that are “drop in ready” at all times?

I’m not talking about ready for a Mother-In-Law visit, because good lord, we all know those can take weeks to prepare for, depending on your particular mother-in-law and the state of your baseboards. But like if your neighbor rang the doorbell unexpectedly, would you feel comfortable inviting them in for a cup of coffee or would you make some excuse about a sick iguana and just step outside to talk to them?

I think just the fact that I’m asking this question tells you which category I fall into.

Hell to the no! We were up til 3 am last night (morning?) cleaning for the breakfast party we hosted today. Before the transformation took place, neighbors, friends, and MILs had to enter at their own risk. Of course, I pretended like it’s always *this* clean. Yawn. I am off to bed. Did I mention that I got up at 6 to start cooking??

Oh God no. Especially not right now. But the house is NEVER drop-in ready.

Our house is not typically drop-in ready for people that don’t love us enough to put up with our crap. But anyone that bothers to come over usually loves us lots. And I just can’t be bothered.

(ps - sorry for the cryptic email addy. Am on MIL’s computer that saves everything I type in those “fill-in” windows b/c she wants everything to be easy. And I don’t want her to know my bloggy email addy.)

Our house is rarely drop-in ready. However, that’s something we probably impose on ourselves. I would love to adopt a little of Sarah’s attitude :-)

Honestly…I’d say about 50% of the time our house is drop-in ready…the other 50% it’s a total disaster…this is due to the fact that our cleaning ladies come every 2 weeks…and since we have to tidy up before they arrive…we usually manage to keep things pretty clean and tidy for about a week…then all hell breaks loose and the cycle starts all over again.

Um, would you hate me if I said yes? It’s just a personal anxiety thing. If my space is messy, I get all twitchy and nervous and I actually like cleaning. I wouldn’t lick my floor, but if someone came to the door, nine times out of ten, I’d be cool with it.

I wouldn’t necessarily say drop-in ready, but then I just wouldn’t care anyway. If you know and like me enough to drop in, then I figure you know and like me enough not to care if I have crap laying all over the place.
