Sex and the City Movie
Today, thanks to Jake’s kind offer, I went to see the SATC movie by myself. I promise I’ll not give any spoilers so feel free to read on even if you haven’t seen it.
Y’all, it was so good. I loved loved loved loved loved loved loved it. Have I mentioned that I loved it? But I also loved the show. My roommate and I were the annoying girls who made Sunday nights an event, complete with drinks, take-out food and HBO. We didn’t answer the phone between 8 and 8:30 on Sunday nights. This was the era before DVRs of course. I watched every single episode and was sad when it ended. So take that into consideration when you read my thoughts on it. I was inclined to love it. If you didn’t like the show, you might not like the movie that much.
It’s way more than a chick flick. It’s the equivalent of a buddy movie for women. Whereas the show was really too short to delve deeply into all the women’s characters and instead sort of turned them into caricatures, the movie, at just a bit over 2 hours, is long enough to really develop them. Charlotte is really shown to be a true mother at heart. Samantha reaches an emotional depth we never saw before. Miranda shows some vulnerability I never expected. And Carrie, well Carrie grows up some. And I adored Jennifer Hudson as Carrie’s PA.
It’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s sad. But most of all, I just loved the devotion these women have for each other. I laughed in spots, I cried in spots. I was entirely enthralled.
Jake said that I should go scope it out and if I liked it enough, we’d go back to see it together. And you can bet your ass I want to see it again. And I think the last time I saw a movie more than once in the theater was 1986 with Top Gun and Ferris Beuller’s Day Off. Yep, I liked this one as much as my twelve year old self loved those two.

Yay! I loved it too! I got so excited when the opening music started. I think I will be making a return visit to the theater too…well, that’s my plan anyway!
