For the Record

September 2nd, 2008

Jake just made me watch some of the Republican convention and I had to get up and walk away before I threw something into the new TV.

I want to go on record here about Sarah Palin. I think she is a complete joke as a leader. And I think that the fact that McCain touted her PTA experience on a TV news interview as part of her qualifications speaks volumes for how little experience she actually has. PTA, huh? Great, so when Iran and North Korea want to host a bake sale, she’s their gal. All that “executive” experience she has, if you want to call it that in a state that is ranked 47th in terms of population, would then make her more qualified than McCain, right? After all, he’s never been a governor.

I don’t give a rat’s ass that her teenage daughter is pregnant. I care about the fact that Sarah Palin is a hypocrite. And I cannot abide a hypocrite. She preaches that abstinence only sex education is the only acceptable sex education. And yet, right under her own roof, she has living, breathing, puking, pickles-and-ice-cream-craving proof that abstinence only sex education doesn’t work. And she continues to beat the drum. Furthermore, the fact that she accepted the nomination knowing that her pregnant 17-year-old daughter was going to be thrust into the limelight like this tells me something about her character.

I realize politics is a dirty business. No question about it. And one of the things that works best is to reduce your opponent’s platform to the lowest common denominator and turn it into a sound bite. But if I hear one more time that Obama wants to raise our taxes, I’m going to scream. Obama has never said he would raise taxes. In fact, if you go here, you can see that his plan is to protect lower and middle class tax cuts. His plan is to reverse the tax cuts for the wealthy and for corporations who move off-shore and take jobs away from the United States. This in no way equates to raising taxes on 95% of the country. But one of my biggest beefs with the Republican party is that most of the people who claim to support the Republicans for tax reasons will NEVER be in the group of people that the Republican party aims to help with their tax cuts because they simply will never make enough money to be in that group. I know I’ll never be in the tax bracket, especially if the new definition of wealthy is someone who makes more than $5 million per year. I’d say the bar would be far lower, but maybe I’m just skewed.

Oh and also for the record, I am not a registered Democrat. I refuse to register as either party because in my mind, you vote the issues, not the party. Yes, I tend to lean to the left but not on everything. So please no throwing stones about how any Republican would be unacceptable to me, because that is simply not true.

Whew. I got that off my chest and I feel better. And I’ll be staying away from the rest of the convention to keep my blood pressure in check.

My mom brought up this same point and it’s really quite repulsive, isn’t it? I feel for the kid.

I agree with you absolutely on all points. Are we wearing Obama shirts next month?

I totally agree with you and Shelly:

“Furthermore, the fact that she accepted the nomination knowing that her pregnant 17-year-old daughter was going to be thrust into the limelight like this tells me something about her character.”

I mean… what kind of mom does that to her own child?!?!

I watched her speech with delight. Then I remembered that there are a lot of illogical registered voters.

The only thing she had to offer was jabs at Obama. She has no offense so she had to use defense.

I think she may just sink him. That is, if we can keep those illogicals busy worrying about hurricanes and the price of beer.

Oh. Thank. God. I do not understand how everyone keeps saying that because she is a mom of 5 kids, it makes her qualified to be the VP. Seriously? I’m a mom too, but that doesn’t mean I consider myself qualified to run the country. Ugh.

I could go on. and on. and on. and on. But a great friend told me about this statement:

Jesus was a community organizer. Pontius was a governor.

    Enough said?
